The Occasional Shippment

Occasional thoughts from a young adult reveling in the messiness of life.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

I knew it–at least, I should have known it. I should have known that the second I committed (in writing) to posting on a certain schedule, I would immediately fall into a bout of writer’s block. And guess what? It happened.

From its inception, this blog has been called “The Occasional Shippment” because it was supposed to be just that–occasional thoughts from a young adult reveling in the messiness of life. However, in reading all about how to get more followers on my blog, one of the top tips was to post on a regular schedule. So I threw the gauntlet down and committed to posting a new entry every weekend. Fail.

It’s not that I haven’t been writing. In fact, I have around 6 posts that are in some stage of completion, but the thoughts haven’t fully resolved themselves, so the posts sit in my drafts folder, beginnings without ends.

Luckily, I have discovered the wonder that is The Daily Post, the WordPress blog that provides ideas and inspiration to get, and keep, people posting. So until those blog drafts of mine resolve themselves into completion, I’ll take inspiration wherever I can find it.

With that, I give you my first post inspired by The Daily Post. Being that I love photography, I was naturally drawn to the Weekly Photo Challenge. This week, the theme is “silhouettes,” which happens to be one of my favorite photographic techniques. It took quite a few photography classes before I figured out how to create a silhouette on purpose, and ever since then, I’ve been setting many objects in the shadows of their beautiful backgrounds.

Here now are my contributions to the weekly photo challenge. All images below are from my recent trip to Italy. Enjoy!

Great pictures – I think I like the Cinque Terre hilltop best. My first reaction to your selection was: “Now here’s somebody who knows what she’s doing.” Chapeau!

I love the sunset in florence shot – very painterly! I definitely sympathize with your inability to commit to posting on a schedule. My personal blog gets updated maybe once every month…or two…

If you need another excuse to post, feel free to join in our weekly photo challenges too – the rules are similar to the other challenges, but all our challenges are for photos taken outdoors (since we’re an outdoor website) Our current theme is weather and that one goes through tomorrow and then we will announce a new one! http://www.letsbewild.com/photo-challenge/wild-weekly-photo-challenge-2-weather/

Thanks for the comment – it’s good to know I’m not alone in my lack of posting regularity. I’ll definitely check out your photo challenges. Always need some inspiration to post. Have a great day!
